Social Program – Friday

Please find below the building blocks for the social program on Friday. You can select multiple blocks that build upon each-other to fill the entire evening or join an activity by simply going there on your own at the start time.

When? Friday September 27, 2019

After the Poster Walk you are invited to our canal cruise, because Amsterdam is best viewed from the water. Relax with a drink and a snack while taking in the beautiful sights of Amsterdam’s canals.
On this canal cruise you’ll experience the best of our historical city. It offers you the best views of the 17th-century buildings lining the city canals, and will also show you the 21st-century city that Amsterdam has become. You’ll come across new architecture and bridges, showing a city that is rooted in history but continues to develop and change.
We will stop on different locations to let people off that have booked an social program activity.

During the cruise several stops will be made to allow for a combination with the tours.

We offer you a unique look at the Van Gogh Museum. We have arranged a special guided tour. Your guide will be Nienke Bakker: She is responsible for the collection of paintings by Vincent van Gogh, the largest in the world with more than 200 paintings. In this role, she is responsible for the conservation, presentation and expansion of this important part of the collection. We doubt there is anyone that knows more about the great artist than she does!

The group size is very limited, however, it’s also possible to go on your own (with a great audio tour). It’s advised to buy tickets (included with the tour) in advance through the museum website.

We will take you on a guided tour through the Ons Lieve Heer op Solder. Tucked away in the heart of Amsterdam’s inner city lies a small marvel: Our Lord in the Attic Museum; a uniquely preserved seventeenth-century house from the Dutch Golden Age. Explore the narrow corridors and climb the stairs to historically furnished livingrooms, kitchens and bedsteads, leading literally to the highpoint of the museum: an entire church in the attic.

After this we take you to Wynand Fockink Tasting room & Liquor store. The authentic ‘Proeflokaal’ (Dutch for tasting room/bar) has retained its 17th century character and product assortment. A great variety of genevers and liqueurs is served here. Next to these drinks, you can also enjoy some excellent draft beers. The distinctive Proeflokaal that houses a very special collection of antique bottles still maintains the tradition of bowing for the first sip.

At the Houseboat Museum, you get the chance to experience first-hand what it’s like to live in a houseboat on an Amsterdam canal. The museum is located in the “Hendrika Maria”, a former cargo ship built in 1914. The cargo hold is now a cosy living space featuring all the conveniences and a surprising amount of space and comfort.
After this we take you to “Proeflokaal A. Van Wees”. It is the prime spot to get acquainted with Amsterdam’s widely known genever culture while enjoying traditional accompanying snacks or have a beer from the barrel.
